9/11 Day

9/11 Day is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that created and annually organizes the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance as a permanent tribute to those killed, injured and sickened by the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the brave individuals who rose in service in response.

20 Years Later

In 2021, Winuk helped coordinate the nonprofit’s historic nationwide service program in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the attacks of 9/11, including the staging of large-scale meal packing volunteer events in cities throughout the U.S., the development and production of a national PSA campaign, launching a robust education program experienced by more than 500,000 students and more. Agency president Jay Winuk co-produced “Shine A Light,” a television special aired by CNN commemorating the 20th anniversary and which was seen by millions of people around the world.

Winuk served as a co-producer of the “September 11 Commemoration and Tribute Event” at the Beacon Theatre in NYC and in 2021 co-produced 9/11 Day’s television program, “Shine A Light,” which aired globally on CNN, CNN International and across CNN’s digital platforms on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 (see interview from the TV special below with CNN Anchor Jake Tapper).

9/11 Day

For 20+ years Winuk Communications has provided a wide array of public relations services and counsel to MyGoodDeed (MGD), the national nonprofit leader in volunteerism and service that successfully advocated for the federally-designated establishment of the anniversary of September 11 as a “National Day of Service and Remembrance.” Known as “9/11 Day,” the observance is now the largest annual day of charitable engagement in U.S. history.

Agency president Jay Winuk, who co-founded 9/11 Day with fellow PR executive David Paine, frequently serves as an organizational spokesperson to media and in public appearances.

Winuk helps recruit the support of U.S. Congressional leaders, major corporations and the 9/11 family community; and stage fundraising, press conferences and other events, including at the NYSE, in Times Square, at Citi Field, on Capitol Hill and in markets throughout the nation.

As a board member and co-leader of the nonprofit, Winuk has appeared on the “Today Show” (NBC-TV), CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, ABC News, “The Early Show” (CBS-TV), National Public Radio and many other TV and radio outlets; and in The New York Times, Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, NY Daily News, NY Post, Newsday, Chronicle of Philanthropy, Washington Times, Bostonia Magazine, Reader’s Digest, MLB.com and hundreds of other domestic and international newspapers and magazines.

Winuk’s work on 9/11 Day has been widely covered in public relations trade media and recognized with industry awards, including sharing a national PRSA Silver Anvil Award for “Excellence in Events/Observances.”

Sports Industry Support for 9/11 Day

For many years 9/11 Day has benefitted from the participation and financial and marketing support of a wide range of professional sports organizations, including the National Football League, Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the United States Tennis Association and many teams throughout the nation.
